Anniversary Shoot

This adorable and sweet couple just celebrated their 30th anniversary.  I have been trying to talk to these two into a photo shoot for a while and finally succeeded!  I am so glad they finally agreed.  Beth and Scott are naturals in front of the camera.  The love they have for one another is a love that all couples strive to have.  A love that is patient and kind and is shown through all aspects of life.  If I didn’t know them, I would seriously guess that they were still in their honeymoon phase the way they talk to each other.

The original plan was to photograph at their house.  And, due to some landscaping projects that had been on hold and still were going on.  We decided to go to the park where Beth grew up close by.  And, where she raised her kids by.  Milham Park

I have known Beth for several years now!  It has been a joy and pleasure to know her and Scott.  They are so down to earth, and genuinely caring, kind and absolutely the most wonderful people!  Beth and Scott Hunter (19 of 32)

Normally, most men do not like their photo taken and I usually get that the standard, “Well, that was fun.” Response from most people.  The reason for this is because I do my best to get people to just interact with one another.  I try to capture who they are.  I don’t want people to pretend to be someone they’re not because that doesn’t feel natural and it doesn’t look natural. I want all of my clients to feel comfortable in front of the camera and very rarely do I say “Ok, now Smile!”  I don’t have to say that usually because I can get natural smiles all on their own!

It’s my goal for my business for my clients to look back on their photos in 10, 20 or even 30 years and say, “I had so much fun during that session, I wonder what Krystal is doing now?!”  If I can leave an impact on someone like that, then my business is a success!  And this is how I run each session.  I do my best to make my clients look great, to have fun and to leave positive lasting memories!

I say this all the time, and I cannot say it enough.  When love is present it is easy to photograph!  If it’s there, it’s there.  And, if it’s not, it’s really hard to fake love in a photo!

Couples Shoot

I was extremely excited when Ellen contacted me to photograph her and her husband, Mark.  Ellen and Mark are Hannah’s parents.  I met Ellen before I actually met anyone else in their family.  Ellen is a teacher, and you can tell by being around her because of her patience and vibrant personality.  A quality someone that works with children must have.

One of my favorite memories of Hannah and Kaleb’s wedding was talking to Mark right before he saw Hannah for the first time.  I knew it was going to be an emotional moment, by the way, he talked about Hannah, that this was his little girl.  He was so happy for her and so excited for her to marry Kaleb.

I made a point of photographing Ellen and Mark where I photographed Hannah’s maternity photos.  I wanted them to share a common special place.  Although neither of them knew it, I pointed it out after the fact.

I always say this, but you cannot pose love.  Either it’s there or it’s not.  And, when it’s there it’s easy to capture.

The weather is always an issue when shooting outdoor photos.  Living in Michigan we never really know how it’s going to turn out.  Will the sun be out?  Will it rain?  Will the ground be wet?  Will it be overcast?  It’s always a guessing game up until the moment.  On this day it was perfect.  The temp was just right, and the weather could not have been better!

Mark informed me that the only ‘kissy’ photo they had was the one on their wedding day.  So, it was only natural to get one.  Mark had just told Ellen all of the reasons why he loved her, and why she was the one.  This is true love at it’s finest!

One request Mark and Ellen had was to get a photo just like their engagement photo.  And, this is their photo, the one we recreated to match their engagement photo.

It’s always important to get photos of you with your spouse, significant other or you with your family.  It’s not always easy to be in the photos, but it is necessary!!

Willson Maternity

Well, this past year has been a whirlwind for this mama.  Marriage, a house, pregnancy, and deployment of her husband.

I first met Hannah over a year ago when she interviewed me to be her wedding photographer.  Not a day goes by that I am not thankful to have met her and her wonderful family.  It has been quite the year for Hannah and Kaleb.  I can look back and see how all of these obstacles have brought them closer together.

Photographing such an important moment in their lives is truly a treasure.  It’s not every day you have a baby and it’s not every day you can document these moments.  And when you are able to, you should!

I can’t wait to meet baby Willson!  He is such a blessing!  And look how beautiful pregnancy is on this gorgeous Hannah!!

It’s a joy and an honor to be a parent!  After having each one of my children I have always wondered how I survived without them.  Here are these little people that come into your life turning it upside down and it never goes back to normal.  You never love the same again, you never feel the same again, and most of all you never live the same again.  How is it possible that there was life before a child?!  After having a child your life is more full than you have ever known or have ever experienced.  You imagine what it will be like, but never truly know until that moment when the baby looks you in the eye for the first time and in that moment your life changes completely!  All for the better!

Sparks Maternity

It was one of the most beautiful Days this far in 2017.  It was such a joy and pleasure to photograph this lovely family once again.  I have had the honor of photographing both pregnancy announcements and now the maternity session for one of the twin sisters.  Nichole and Jessica are both pregnant with baby number 1 and due around 10 weeks of each other.  Nichole and Matt are having a baby girl and Jessica and Steve are having a baby boy.

The sun was strong and it was a few hours before sunset.  We were at my secret location and were able to find a beautiful tree for the girls to lean up against.  They came up with this pose from Pinterest and wanted to incorporate it into the shot.  I Feel this photograph describes the relationship that Nichole and Jessica have, along with how they want their children to grow up.  Bathed in love and the ability to communicate. With a friendship from the beginning that will last beyond a lifetime.

I absolutely love their dog Lily.  She is such a spunky, silly, fun life loving dog.  She’s so full of energy and exceptionally lovable.  She loves water, running and the outdoors.  I always get a great photo of this pups personality!

Lily is most definitely Nichole and Matt’s baby.  She’s always in the photos and always part of every adventure they have.  She’s been such a joy to photograph and always makes me laugh!

When two people love each other it’s always easy to photograph.  Love is not easily posed and you cannot capture it if it’s not there.   And when it’s there, it shows!

I cannot wait to meet these sweet babies!  I wish these two families all the best!!

Why have a ‘Pre-Session’?

There are several reasons to have a ‘pre-session’ before your actual session.  However, I will only name a few…

  1.  We get to meet each other face to face…  This is probably the most important reason to have a pre-session.  If we don’t meet until the day of the session we have .04 seconds to get comfortable with each other.  During the pre-session, we get to talk and get to know each other.  I get to understand your goals for the session and you get to see you who you are entrusting with capturing important moments in your life.
  2. I get to meet your kids…  This one is just as important as number 1.  This may be the first time your kids are meeting me.  Even though we may have talked on the phone, Facebook or email.  I am a complete stranger to your children.  Kids are usually pretty comfortable in front of me, but if we have a pre-session I get to meet them and they are not as uncomfortable during the final session.
  3. We get to brainstorm on your session…  During the pre-session, we get to discuss ideas that you may have, and what you are expecting during the session.  Each session is custom made…  YOU get to decide HOW, WHEN and WHAT you want your session to look like.
  4. Questions answered…  Any questions you may have you can have answered beforehand.  YOU get my complete and full attention so not only is your session custom made for you, you get even more time with me to have any questions or concerns you may have answered.  Don’t worry, I even come to you for the pre-session!  This stress-free consultation is extremely beneficial for your session to be the best that it can be!

Now that you know why we have a pre-session, feel free to make an appointment today!!!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime!

KGLRC/WMU Bowling Extravaganza

IMG_0636w

On May 31, 2015 I had the pleasure and the privilege of being the event photographer for the KGLRC/WMU Bowling Extravaganza.  There were hundreds of people that attended the event from young to wise 🙂

My favorite part of the event were all of the smiles and happy faces, even if they were only getting gutter balls.

I met an amazing family where the little boy makes all of their outfits every year for Pride Week.  This year the shirts said ‘Keep Calm and Pride On’.  Very moving and uplifting coming from such a young person.  It was an amazing experience that I know I and my daughter will never forget.

After the event, I realized how amazing things could be if we just had the patience for one another. If we allowed each other to fail at our own pace, and that we accepted each other for who we really are.

I once heard that the one thing that keeps us from truly succeeding is ourselves.  Is it true with relationships?  Are we afraid to love others unconditionally?  And if we did love them unconditionally we set ourselves up to be hurt.  It’s one thing to love someone, it’s another to love them without fail, to love them no matter what, to love them unconditionally.  This means that when they make a mistake or do something that you don’t agree with that you will love them.  You will love them even if they no longer love you.

How painful of a thought, to love another human being without fail.  To love them beyond all the stars in the sky.  And, is it possible to love someone that you don’t even know?  Can you love someone you don’t know?  What if we did?  What if we stepped up humanity by loving each other without fail?  By loving the person that cut in front of you in line, cut you off on the road, stole your wallet or that person that was rude to you at the gas station at 3 am.  Can you love them?  Could you love them?

Why not?  What’s holding you back from loving someone, anyone?  What holds you back?  Is it knowing that there is not a single person in this world that is perfect?  Is it knowing that you could possibly one day be hurt?  Is it because you were hurt?  Is it because you don’t know how to love?

And if you love someone, are you loving them unconditionally?  Do you know how?

What if humanity did?  What if we loved each other for every bit of person we are?  What if we just loved? Is it possible?  I think it is, I think anything is possible as long as we are able to love.

Just Love.
