Shalbi is a Senior!!!

It’s not everyday you graduate from high school!  In fact it’s one of those great accomplishments that you get to experience.  After all those years of schooling for it to finally come to an end.  Now you get to truly experience life and what it has to offer.

This beautiful young lady was so much fun to photograph.  We started out at Asylum lake and ended downtown next to Arcadia Brewing Company.  The weather was so hot.  Shalbi was such a great sport with all of the walking we had to do.  She was so easy to photograph and fun to be around.

Shalbi loves photography as much as I do!  We talked about photography, and her plans as she graduates school.  Her mom and sister  joined us, and they were so much fun.

We looked and looked for some graffiti around Kalamazoo but were unable to find any.  We came across this bridge that had this mural painted with a giant bumble bee and giant flower.  The flower was absolutely beautiful and we decided to photograph Shalbi in front of it.

This young lady has the best smile, when she smiles the whole world smiles too!  Shalbi also knows two languages.  It’s always fascinating when I meet people that can speak more than one language. I’m amazed, impressed and extremely jealous that they have such a diverse knowledge of language.  This young lady is going to make it far in this world. She is focused, motivated and sees beauty in everything.  It was a joy and a pleasure to photograph Shalbi. Shalbi is one of those women that you can tell even now, she is going to do something great in this world!   I wish her all the joy and happiness this world has to offer.

Words for Wednesday (How to love yourself in Photos)

Ok, so here are my words for Wednesday.  They are quite motivational and need to be read several times to get them through.  How to love yourself in photos!

We as humans tend to be the hardest on ourselves.  I’ve heard this time and time again from people.  I will love a photo, show it to them.  And, they HATE it!  Hate everything about the photo.  I go home edit the photo and post it to Facebook.  And then they LOVE IT!  LOVE it to the moon and back, absolutely L-O-V-E IT!  Why?!  It’s not because I edit the photos very much.  I do slight touches here and there. But, for the most part it’s the exact same photo.

There is one reason why I think people dislike the photos at first when they see them in the back of my camera.

  1.  Because they have a complex with themselves:

First and foremost people have a major complex when it comes to themselves.  I have had several photographers that I know take a beautiful photo of this GEORGOUS person.  And, the person hates it!  Because they pick at everything about themselves.  There is this one thing that no matter who takes the photo they will always see it in the photo.

So, I have started saying this to people when I take their photos.

“It doesn’t matter if it is a million dollar photographer that takes your photo.  If you have a complex with something about yourself, you will see it in the photos!”

“With me you don’t have a complex, this is about you!  This is meant to be fun, exciting, amazing, and I give you permission to LOVE yourself!  Love yourself like you always mean to love yourself!”

I don’t take photos for someone to look back at them and think ‘YUCK! I don’t like how I look in that photo!’

And here is the reason why I think they love the photo after it’s posted to Facebook:

  1.  Because they post it to their page and get a bajillion ‘LIKES’ from family and friends.  With everyone saying how great the photo is.  They get that outside gratification that they needed.

The best part about that is when it comes time to do another photo shoot.  They are more relaxed and have more fun the second, third and so on, times.

Well, here it is people, LOVE YOURSELF!  I give you permission to love the photos, to share them, brag about them.  And, most of all to enjoy the time you have with me.  It’s meant to be fun and exciting!

Tuesday’s Wedding and Dress shoe tip

Ever wear high heels to a wedding, event or anything outside?  It’s the worst isn’t it??!!  I was in a wedding a few years ago in a field.  Here I was wearing this short beige dress, with these super cute silver heels.  And I had to walk the length of the entire aisle on my tip toes.  Every time I put my heels down they went right into the soft dirt.  I had to spend the entire ceremony on my tip toes.  The ceremony was short.  However, my calves were feeling it when all done.  I then had to do wedding party photos in these heels. (Insert Fake Happy Smile Here!)

Fast forward several years…

This year I was at a wedding that was going to be in a field as well.  I looked down and saw this clear looking thing on the heel of one of the brides high heeled shoes.  When I asked her what they were, she told me ‘Solemates‘.  These plastic rubbery covers easily slip on and off your heels.  Not only are these ‘Solemates‘ awesome for in the dirt.  They are just as awesome on steady solid ground.  They help with balance, coordination.  And, lets be totally honest here.  We could definitely use some balance and coordination when we have a couple of drinks.  Which makes them super awesome for wedding receptions!  I have not had to use them.  So, this is not from experience at all.

I personally would purchase them because of the usefulness of these.  Not only are they super useful when it comes to walking in high heels which is a skill all on its own.  They are small and come in different colors to match your shoes.  And, to top it off they come in different sizes as well!  If you plan on wearing high heels for any reason in the near future I recommend looking into these!

It was a pleasure photographing Russell.  I first met Russell during the Eagle Ceremony in February of 2015.  This young man is not only a senior this year, but he is an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.  Not all Boy Scouts obtain this award and when you do it is highly recognized!

I know that Russell will go on to do great things with his life.  This young man is motivated, and very respectful.  Thank you for letting me be such a huge part of your life and your wonderful accomplishments.

Congratulations Russell!!!!
