Throw Back Thursday! (Krogel Family)

Throw back Thursday to this beautiful family!!  I am so blessed to be able to photograph these amazing people.  I met the Krogel’s at a church that the both of us used to attend. Jillayne approached me to photograph their lovely family.  Of course I said ‘YES’.  Look how great they photograph! This family is so giving, loving, sharing, kind, generous, motivational and most of all God loving!

It’s not everyday you meet people like this.  This family would give you the shirt off their back.  And the way Bruce and Jillayne look at each other.  The gravitational pull they have towards one another is not possible to duplicate.  Bruce looks at Jillayne like she’s the last woman on Earth.  And, Jillayne looks at Bruce like he made the moon.  These two have a marriage that people need to learn from.  The support they give one another is absolutely amazing!  They are amazing role models when it comes to love, THEY wrote the book.

And their kids!  Just as awesome.  Lindsee is the sweetest, and most motivated young lady!  She is beautiful in the inside and out.  Lindsee will accomplish great things in her life.  Alec, is such a sweet young man.  He loves sports, and has the most gentle heart!  His smile could light up a dark room.  It is such an amazing experience to see young people grow and mature into the adults they will be.  And, to see their potential at such a young age, is a true blessing!

Thank you so much for letting me capture your precious moments!!!!!

This family has so much love for everyone.  I wish more people had their giving nature.  It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet a family like this, and I have been blessed enough to know them!

Words for Wednesday (How to love yourself in Photos)

Ok, so here are my words for Wednesday.  They are quite motivational and need to be read several times to get them through.  How to love yourself in photos!

We as humans tend to be the hardest on ourselves.  I’ve heard this time and time again from people.  I will love a photo, show it to them.  And, they HATE it!  Hate everything about the photo.  I go home edit the photo and post it to Facebook.  And then they LOVE IT!  LOVE it to the moon and back, absolutely L-O-V-E IT!  Why?!  It’s not because I edit the photos very much.  I do slight touches here and there. But, for the most part it’s the exact same photo.

There is one reason why I think people dislike the photos at first when they see them in the back of my camera.

  1.  Because they have a complex with themselves:

First and foremost people have a major complex when it comes to themselves.  I have had several photographers that I know take a beautiful photo of this GEORGOUS person.  And, the person hates it!  Because they pick at everything about themselves.  There is this one thing that no matter who takes the photo they will always see it in the photo.

So, I have started saying this to people when I take their photos.

“It doesn’t matter if it is a million dollar photographer that takes your photo.  If you have a complex with something about yourself, you will see it in the photos!”

“With me you don’t have a complex, this is about you!  This is meant to be fun, exciting, amazing, and I give you permission to LOVE yourself!  Love yourself like you always mean to love yourself!”

I don’t take photos for someone to look back at them and think ‘YUCK! I don’t like how I look in that photo!’

And here is the reason why I think they love the photo after it’s posted to Facebook:

  1.  Because they post it to their page and get a bajillion ‘LIKES’ from family and friends.  With everyone saying how great the photo is.  They get that outside gratification that they needed.

The best part about that is when it comes time to do another photo shoot.  They are more relaxed and have more fun the second, third and so on, times.

Well, here it is people, LOVE YOURSELF!  I give you permission to love the photos, to share them, brag about them.  And, most of all to enjoy the time you have with me.  It’s meant to be fun and exciting!

Tip for Tuesday Headshots

It’s not all the time I get in front of the camera.  However, I know it’s good for me.  I suffer from a complex just like everyone and I don’t like my photo taken either.  And then I go back through the photos and I feel so much better about myself.  I think ‘Is that really me?!’  Trust me there are times that someone takes my photo and I am completely disgusted with the way I look.  It takes special posing, patience to get my photo.  This is why I use a professional photographer.  My assistant whom I trust when it comes to my photos.  We do this a couple of times a year for each other to keep fresh headshots.

It is extremely important to keep fresh headshots because when you meet someone in person you want them to recognize you.  Your photo is who they have trusted, and when you meet them and your photo is not even similar to what you look like it’s deceiving and you lose trust with that person.

So, here it is the tips for Tuesdays headshots:  (Or to rock any photo of yourself)

  1.  Make sure you know which side is your best side.  My best side is my left side, hence the photos of the left side of my face.
  2. Push your chin out.  Don’t make a face while pushing your head out, just gently push your whole head out and keep your chin up slightly.  (This also depends on the shape of your face how much to push out or up.)
  3. Photos should be taken from above your eye level to get rid of any possible double chin.  It doesn’t matter how big you are, most people have double chins.  Especially, when they laugh.
  4. Stand on one leg, this will drop one of your shoulders giving you a slight curve.
  5. Stand up straight.  This one is important and so many people forget to do this.  However, stand up straight with shoulders pushing up.
  6. Do something with your hands, place them gently on your face, hold them together, have your thumb hold your belt loop, hands in pockets, arms crossed.  Make sure that your hands are doing something. Even if you can’t see them it will align your body a certain way.

I hope these tips help you to rock your next headshot, selfie, or photo shoot!!!

Motivational Monday

muhammad-ali-sayings-1

Some motivation for your Monday morning.  Please feel free to share this to brighten someone else’s Monday morning.  Keep your head up!

To be honest most of the time I have inspirational sayings all over the house.  I need sayings like this to inspire what’s deep within.  When I look at sayings from people that I feel are great, to see what inspired them.  It just inspires me as well.  To know that great people before me needed inspiration as well.  It amazes me how brilliant people can be when it comes to finding the inspiration they need.

I know personally, Monday’s have a tendency to be rough in my household.  We have a hard time adjusting back to the weekly schedule.  We do our best to try and keep the weekend schedule the same as during the week.  However, that’s just not always the case. I started doing ‘Motivational Monday’s’ because sometimes you just need a little extra boost.  I hope that the motivational sayings help you as well!!

Since I needed a consistent posting.  My goal is to have something for everyday.

Motivational Mondays-I plan on posting motivational sayings every Monday to keep myself and others moving.

Tips for Tuesday- I plan to post a video of some tip that I found helpful.  It will be a tip about anything.  Just something that I found helpful

Wordy Wednesday- I plan to post just words on Wednesday.  Just an update of what is going on.

Throwback Thursday- I plan to post photos of my previous clients on Thursdays.

Fun Friday- I plan to post something fun, funny, fun-ish.  I know that my sense of humor may be different than yours.  I hope you like what ever it is that I post anyway.

I hope this brightens your day and makes Monday less Monday-ish!

Please enjoy and feel free to contact me at any time!!!

Funny Friday (Keep reading for the funny story)

To be honest I wasn’t sure what I was going to post for Friday that would trigger some laughter in men and women.  Until about an hour ago I saw this coming down my Facebook news feed.  This boy decided to pick up this dead squirrel and bring it to school to eat later on that day…  Funniest thing I have read in a long time.

I think the funniest part about this is the fact that my Son Tristan would totally do this!  He would completely think that we should eat this later on.  Which leads me to the funny story I have…

Last year 2015 summer I was pregnant with my third child.  So, of course I was nesting like most pregnant women do and I had insisted on washing everything in the house.  When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING.  I think we did something like 15 loads of laundry in one week to make sure that everything was washed before baby Toby came.  (I succeeded by the way).  Anyway.  I had thrown some darks in the washer, and it had run its cycle.  It was now time for me to change the laundry over.  I opened the washer looked in and started to put some clothes in the dryer.  When I stopped.  We had very little lighting at that time by the washer so I wasn’t completely sure of what I was seeing.  However, it did look like a toad.  I looked closer and called my husband over.  He examined the shadow closely.  I said, ‘Please tell me that is not what I think it is!’  Well it WAS!  I had washed a toad.

So, my question was.  Where did it come from??!!  I asked everyone in the house, however we all know it was Tristan.  No one ever did come forward and say who did it.  Seriously, one of my weirdest parenting moments to date I would have to say!!!  Enjoy your weekend and be safe!!!

Throwback Thursday Family Session

Thomas, Charles (1-W)

Throwback to my very first clients!  This family started it all.  They have helped me along the way, thank you Thomas’s.  I was going through these photos not too long ago and it’s crazy how much Zoe has changed in just two years of photographing your beautiful family.

Laura is extremely intelligent and I can definitely tell that Zoe is going to be just like her mom.  I love going there and hearing all of the stories of how Laura helped with Zoe’s Girl Scout troop.  In fact they my go-to family for Girl Scout cookies.

Rolo and Addie are such beautiful dogs.  I am always happily greeted at the door when I stop by their house.  It always takes some time but Rolo eventually comes up to me to pet him.  Addie however is extremely friendly.  She loves people and loves attention.

I met Charles at a place I used to work at a few years ago.  He was a regular there, EVERY SINGLE DAY!  I say that in a good way.  He is always, always, always positive and fun loving.  He’s very rarely in a bad mood and genuinely cares about everyone.  There are very few people like Charles.

One year Charles, Zoe and I were all running in the same 5K.  Our numbers were all in sequence because of the first three letters of our names are the same.  I was shocked when I went to get my number for the race and saw these two right next to mine.  We do have a photo roaming around Facebook somewhere with the three of us together.

Charles is extremely lucky to have Laura, she keeps him in line.  I love seeing this wonderful family.  The love they have for one another is timeless.  Their family is so relaxed and welcoming.  I wish more families had their welcoming nature.  The world would be such a better place with more Thomas families.

Words for Wednesday

Well, here is something about myself.  I am such a softy.  I have been to so many weddings in my entire life.  And, I still find myself crying at each and every one of them.  I am so emotionally invested in weddings.  They are such a happy and beautiful time.  In fact I keep tissue in my camera bag because of this!

It also amazes me how well the bride and groom hide their nerves on the wedding day.  Even after all of the weddings I have been to, it’s amazing how much love is there during that time.  There are some many people that cry during the ceremony and the reception.

If you find yourself thinking ‘I don’t want to cry during my wedding’.  Ignore that voice.  Go ahead and cry, let the tears flow.  Blubber like a baby, ugly cry if that’s your way.  Do what YOU need to do to express yourself on YOUR wedding day.  Don’t feel that you have to stifle any emotion.  EVER!  Whether it’s your wedding day or not.  It’s NOT human!

So, here’s a secret for you.  YOU are SUPPOSED to cry on your wedding day.  You are SUPPOSED to feel an overwhelming amount of emotion.  This IS an emotional day.  If people that go to weddings don’t even know the people that well.  And, THEY cry.  Let it go.  Cry!  Cry those extremely overwhelming happy tears!  This is supposed to be a once in a lifetime experience and the whole point is to enjoy it in its entirety.

Besides, when you have your make up done they use waterproof make up, and usually spray some solidifying spray to keep it from running in tears or sweat.  So, if you hold back your emotions, it’s not because you think your make up will run.  It’s honestly because you are afraid of what other people will think.  And your wedding is NOT the day to worry about that!
